For young pregnant ladies aged 12 - 21 who need a safe place to stay while pregnant, we offer full residential services.  The residential services are provided in a wonderful large residential home that is clean, beautifully furnished, and private.  Our staff provides a loving and friendly environment for the young women who come to live there, and each client is made to feel comfortable.

The home is conveniently located in midtown Kansas City, Missouri, and young ladies are housed twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.  Parents or guardians are encouraged to stay in contact with their daughters while they live there.

Intake Process

Clients who are interested in the Maternity Home should call the HOPE Line at 816-916-4434 to schedule a meeting with the Intake Coordinator.

After the initial meeting and assessment, potential clients are reviewed by an assessment team to decide if they would be a good fit for the Residential Program and if equally the Residential Program would be beneficial for the potential client.

Prior to acceptance and move in, all clients are required to complete a drug screen and proof of pregnancy. If a client submits a positive drug screen, it is required that the client completes a drug treatment program prior to being admitted into the Residential Program.)

Clients are notified of their acceptance and then schedule a move-in date.

The entire intake process can take one to two weeks. If the maternity home is full, clients are placed on a waiting list and are then notified when a spot becomes available.

Services Provided

Case Management
Each client is provided with daily case management services helping them develop excellent resource and development skills for daily living.  These services also ensure that clients receive excellent medical care, daily living assistance, and life skills classes that prepare them for life after they leave our home.

Counseling / Therapy
Individual and group counseling provided for all clients and client family members.  Counseling and therapy guidance assists the clients to identify their own needs and assists them in making future healthy choices in relationships and daily living.

Educational / Vocational Guidance
Assist clients in completing high school education requirements for graduation either through use of alternative schools or GED classes.  If clients have already graduated from high school, they are encouraged to enroll in college or technical classes.

Prenatal Education and Support Classes
Prenatal classes outline each trimester of the client’s pregnancy and give instruction about proper exercise, nutritional needs, labor and delivery, and teach clients what to expect while pregnant.  After giving birth, support classes are held through the outreach program where daycare is provided while moms (and some dads) attend valuable classes and support one another in parenthood.

Life Skills
Life skills classes teach clients how to better manage their households by creating a budget, balance their checkbooks, shop for bargains and nutritious foods at the grocery and discount stores, prepare a resume, effectively apply for meaningful employment that will provide income and healthcare options for themselves and their babies and many other necessary skills for successful daily living.

Parenting Classes
Parenting classes prepare clients for motherhood.  These informative classes teach proper discipline techniques, anger management, proper feeding and diapering, and steps to take to make babies safe and secure.

Nutrition Classes
Classes in nutrition provide clients with information about proper nutrition for both mother and baby.  Clients learn how to read product labels, how to prepare healthy, nutritious meals, what the basic food groups are, how to avoid ‘junk food,’ and what is important in a daily diet.

Adoption Counseling
Adoption counseling is available to all clients who may be considering placement of their baby after birth.  These services are provided by a  licensed professional social worker who will work with clients to choose a loving home for their child.

Safe Housing and Daycare Information
Clients will be given information about locating and securing safe housing for themselves and their newborns once they leave The LIGHT House.  Clients will also be counseled about selecting safe daycare for their newborn when they return to work or school.

Bible Studies and Daily Devotions
Bible studies and daily devotions are an intricate part of the residential services at The LIGHT House. The LIGHT House is a place where young ladies experience the love of Christ, and through our Bible studies and devotionals, we create a space and time for clients to seek and experience God.

After-Care Support
Clients who have been residents at The LIGHT House may stay in the outreach program for up to two years after giving birth.  During that time, they may continue to shop in our Baby Boutique for items like gently used or new baby items, diapers, personal hygiene items, and other necessities by using coupons earned from attending personal growth programs.

The Baby Boutique
Ladies who attend our Outreach Program and ladies who stay in our Maternity Home are able to earn coupons for participation, which they can use to purchase items in our Baby Boutique. They can purchase items like diapers, wipes, bottles, strollers, car seats, clothes, and more. Visit our Baby Boutique to learn more.
